CJ3B and DJ-3A forum ask us to be part of us.
04/08/19 at 20:49:10
Print Post
Hi everyone,

Derek Redmond from the CJ3B website is asking us if we can change a little bit our forum to let them be a part of it. The idea is they want to get rid of their own forum actually on Tapatalk and instead of making a new one, they would like to be integrated into our forum.

To do it, we will add new main Categories for CJ3B with their sub-categorie (same for DJ-3A) and change the banner on the top of the home page. We will rename the forum as 3A and 3B with new picture.

I think itís a very great idea.

What do you think?

I think it is a good idea, a few extra categories wonít hurt, we could even merge some forums, example the modified cj3a and b forums to be just a modified cj3 forum.

Even the name, the CJ3 page, sounds a lot simpler. And the more members the better.

I think as long as the CJ3B is a separate category that would be okay. Probably like many members on this forum I visit the CJ2A page and I don't think they mind me looking and posting as long as it is not specific to CJ3A. My restoration was taken from both websites.

I'm okay with it...ÖÖ..

More discussion on just about anything jeeps is always good!

I too visit multiple sites looking for help on different issues (lots of smart people out there!).  I think there are cross-over areas between the 3A/3B that are similar and this could be beneficial.

I have no problem with combining the two. Maybe it would  provide the impetus to get the data pages caught up to date.

I would see the move as a positive thing. As the increased traffic can only help both groups of owners.

Not sure why Derek is looking for another change of host but I do not want to see his material and members vanish. I agree we can certainly welcome them here. Will Derek and his Moderators/admins come on board as well?

I don't have a problem with the 3B folks joining us. I think it is a good idea as long as we posters keep in mind to specify which CJ we are talking about. I also appreciate being asked "our" opinion. Thank you guys.

Yes change is good I like the idea of a combined cj3 forum since I use both I would even combine with the cj2 and call it the flat fender forum, with categories for the individual models.

I own both so obviously I am in favor of the change.
The 3b page has been the standard that all JEEP
web sites are measured by and combining them makes the flattie "fix" easier to take care of. 1 stop shopping as it were.

I only own a 2a, so not sure I have a dog in the fight (yet?), BUT... I find myself all over all the old jeep sites, pages, groups and find awesome info all over.

Anything that condenses (and organizes?) information without losing what's out there is fine by me.

Iím a little late to the party.  Initially, Iím reluctant.  The 3B guys are crazy.  The DJ guys are even more nuts.  Who in their right mind would want to join up with that?

Iím just kidding. Smiley

What could it hurt?  More knowledge. More helpful interactions. More sharing. For me, these forums have created friendships that I couldnít imagine my life being without at this point.

I believe we would all be the richer if we join forces.  That said, I will go to my grave claiming the CJ-3A is, by a fair margin, the best Flat Fender ever conceived!  Anyone up for a friendly rivalry? Wink

As you can imagine, I am a member of both the 3a and 3b page, as the information is pretty much the same to me! I would certainly be for it.

Yeah Tim I'm also a bit late getting here myself.

Actually for some unknown reason this topic has just showed up on my screen for the very first time today.
Not sure why it did not upload several days ago ???

Anyway...
I suppose that I may have proposed this CJ3 merger idea.
It's been suggested and I'm blaming it on Bob W. Cheesy

As many of you know I've been the sole moderator overlooking the interactive portion of the 3B Info (Page) for a long time
My idea for this merge has evolved from the fact that the 3B Bulletin Board (not the 3B Information site itself) is having server difficulties.
I have been a CJ3A forum member for several years now.
Why ? Simply because the CJ-3A and CJ-3B models happen to be my all time favorites.

My posts on this forum have been rather infrequent.
But lets face it, the CJ-3A Forum and at times the CJ-3B BB have have seen very limited usage as compared to the CJ-2A and ECJ5 forums.
My real hope here is to unify these dedicated forums and thereby increase CJ3 forum usage.
Unification will require some foremat change.
I personally expect that a simplified list of sub forums will ease the transition.
I hope the 3A Administrators will provide their input here.

I am willing to step aside or to engage in whatever capacity I am best able to promote a united CJ/DJ 3 forum.

Me and my opinions certainly are not the final word here.

Willys Overland / Willys Motors / Kaiser Jeep Corporation /  AMC Jeep Corporation were and yet remain as the sole authority.

Thanks to all herein and remember that your opinion matters !

I just read all the comments on the 3B page about this suggestion, and I just went through all the comments here.

The 2A site is quite active and strong from what I see, and both 3B and 3A sites are less so. The similarity of "CJ3" models makes it logical to combine and become stronger/more active. I feel a definite kinship with the 3B guys, so I think it would be great to see the boards combined.

Even if I am the administrator of the forum, I can not unilaterally decide to go ahead or not with the integration of people from 3B.
The website belongs to the members and it is up to them to decide.
As I can see, the active majority thinks it's a good idea.
I will talk with Derek to see how we can proceed. We already exchanged a lot of email and Tim is included in the discussion.

The first step I think would be to temporarily put the process of registering new members back in automatic mode.
We will promote the moderator of the 3B forum to be moderator here also.

Please note that even if we do our best, I'm afraid that some people will get upset to move here and learn how our forum is working.

Some people over the 3B forum are already complaining about the fact that we are not tapatalk apps compatible.
They also said that we are using an old software.
It's all true.

And some people from here might get upset by the change that we gonna do to accommodate the 3B people.

I hope that we will be able to find a solution to get most of people happy.

Shall the Willys spirit be with us!

Just remember that we can never make everyone happy. A huge advantage of this forum is that it belongs to all of us, so we can change it to suit the majority of the users.

There has been good feedback from our 3A members and the members of the 3B forum.  I don't think we're that far apart.  There are a couple legitimate concerns from the 3B group. The two that seem to float to the top happen to be the same two I have about our 3A Forum.

1. Too many categories and sub categories.   I think we can all come to a consensus on this.  Through emails and forum suggestions, we are already working on a reduction that would be easy to navigate, but still highlight some of our favorite categories we all seem to enjoy.

2. Not quite as 'friendly' as it should be when using smart phones.  And not 'find-able' when using top search engines like Google, Chrome, Edge, etc.  Some of these concerns might be addressed by updating the current software, but I'm not sure.  You can't fight the algorithms, but it seems like we used to be (the 3A Page) far more prominent in the search engine world than we are now.  This drop off seems to have occurred just over the last couple years.  I am not bright enough to solve these issues, so Pascal, Derek, OldTime and others will need to take the lead on this if we do decide to join forces.

I really do hope we can make this work.  If we do, someone needs to come up with a really cool forum topper that highlights all models.  I really like the topper at the 3B Forum.  Do we have an artist in the room? Wink

So I'll throw this potential concern out there.
I suppose perhaps the revamped forum would be renamed ???
If so we need good suggestions for the title and that may become part of Roberto's proposed new artistic challenge.

athawk11.... I tried to message you but am unable to enter any member name into the recipient box.
Recipient box worked before but it is not working now ???
Maybe you can PM me ?

As I understand it, your address will remain as is, i.e. cj3apage.com.

You have a link at the top for the CJ3A Page .  Perhaps also include one for the CJ3B Page so that both are linked.

A name here for the forum could be similar to: The Flat Fender Forum for CJ3A DJ3A and CJ3B or CJ/DJ 3A and CJ 3B.

Just a couple of examples.

The Civilian Flatfender Forum would make a nice name if we somehow had the 2-A's included.
But like I've already been told; that name may not function so well with most search engines.

I'm pretty easy breezy about the new name, but we will want it to be a top hit when being searched for using Google, Edge, Safari, etc.  This means we will probably do best to use the models names represented here.  I think Russ may be on the right track.

That said, we can open up a poll with some of the suggested choices and see what wins.

Cheesy I agree with everyone else, with the recent changes it has been harder to for me to keep in touch with the 3B crowd, Derek keeps a topnotch jeep website. I have been a member there and here for the last ten or so years.

I've likely got about as much experience with these interactive Bulletin Boards as anyone concerning time and volume of comments.
SO....If you all don't mind I'll tell you what I'm thinking.
I basically I expect that the merged forum can easily double in it's useage or activity.

Is everyone O.K. with that ?

Furthermore I've found there are certain basic methods by which the forum activity can be greatly increased or decreased.
So how just how much activity is to be desired becomes the end result ???
As far as I know this forum operates as a democratic membership.
So I'm going to ask just how much activity do you all hope to see ?
Same activity... double... triple or maximum ?

Thanks for your comments... KEN
