I just renewed my membership.  I was a very active member starting about 12 years ago.   I have not been on the site for about ten years.   I am going to be building a couple of engines and have some extra parts so I thought I might check back in.

Have a nice day 🙂

Thanks for the warm welcome.  I'm  excited to be part of this forum.  I look forward to figuring out what to do to rebuild my grandfather's 1951 Willys.  He used it for a hunting jeep from 1955 to about 1985.  Then it got parked and hasn't moved.  I pick it up in December.  Looking forward to it.  Smiley

And we are looking forward to lots of pictures.
Take a few before you move it. It's fun to see an old Willys in the weeds behind the barn and then transformed into a running icon.

I hope these new members are not disappointed.  There is less activity here than any other forum I've been involved with.  I'm thinking the Willys world of all the different websites may have reached saturation.  We have many days on the 3A with no posts at all.  What to do?

I don't think there's anything we can do other than stay active and post a lot of useful info to attract the less active users.

I saw the same thing happen on the Folbot forum I used to moderate. Activity slowly died over several years until it was a core of a couple dozen members posting out of 4,000 members.

And then the Folbot company went out of business in 2016 along with the other major North American maker of folding kayaks. The economy killed them both.

We need to interest the younger generations in preserving old Willys. As we old guys die off we need a new generation to carry on the fun.

And a lot of new people are on facebook group...It's more quick than an old forum...

I still prefer asking question here because I'm sure the answer will be good.

I don't care how many people we are here, I will keep the website running as long as I can...meaning until I die!

Sounds good Pascal.

I do look at Facebook, but forums like this have an advantage of individual 'Threads' discussing specific topics that can grow with new questions, answers, and suggestions.  Facebook can't maintain this kind of 'order' and is nearly impossible to search for topics/subjects.

I enjoy the projects threads here and at other Jeep sites.  Facebook doesn't have anything like a continuous 3 year project thread.

Aside from that, we are all part of a 3A Willys family now.  I don't feel that way about the folks on Facebook, and I never will.  Too many 'attitudes' out there.

I've probably said this before, I despise the facebook format and user interface. It is simply one big, long, random string of talk - mostly unrelated to anything around it.
I also don't like the old listserve format that was the thing in the days of email. That format has some of the same disadvantages of facebook in that it's a long string of mostly unrelated topics.
The prime advantage of a web based forum is that it's categorized so you can go directly to a topic of interest and all the posts are grouped there. I will never be of any use to the facebook people. If some of you go there, please encourage them to use this forum as it's useful to all at any time.
End rant.

For small business guys, like me, it's called "Networking". The ability to communicate in other venues is priceless. For straightforward education, forums, like this one are the best platform. Advertising on Facebook is a plus. I consider it gauchè to advertise on forums. I'll answer legitimate questions in the furtherance of knowledge, but no "cold calls".

I agree that FB (IFFC - flat fender group) is a pain to use as far as finding solutions is concerned.  There is no search feature that I know of.  The one thing I do like is the videos and photos - it is a very visual forum and if I see something that looks interesting I can check it out.

In my opinion, the 3A page is the easiest forum to use that I have ever encountered.  It is so easy to see recent activity, and about everything you would ever need to search for is well organized and only a click or two away.

Scout, what I like about " Old Jeep Carbs" is that real time thread that is at the bottom of every page where you can have a short discussion with the guys.  The "shout box" I think you call it.  It seems to just be up for a day or two and not about anything in particular.  I like it!  But, the rest of the site takes some getting used to.  Dates of thread are missing, and it just seems cumbersome to navigate.  I check in now and then, but the 3A page is the go-to for me at this point.

The 2A page is about the only place to go to for "shows and get-togethers".  It seems to be the place for all of the Willys happenings.

Keep posting your old Willys Jeep lives and involve the young 'uns as much as you can.
Pass it on to the next generation.
